Yesterday, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun posted images of the upcoming Mix Fold 3 and hinted at its slim design. The company now reveals more concrete numbers and some additional details about the new foldable, which will launch on August 14.

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 will measure 4.93mm unfolded and 9.8mm when folded. For comparison, the Mix Fold 2 measured 5.4mm and 11.2mm, respectively, while the current thinnest horizontal foldable, the Honor Magic V2, is 4.7mm and 9.9mm.

This means that Xiaomi is about to steal the title from Honor and it got there with an extensive hinge redesign. The new hinge is made out of high strength steel and wear-resistant carbon ceramic. The new 3-stage connecting rod design is more complex with 14 movable parts and 198 parts total, compared to the 2-stage design of the Mix Fold 2 with 8 movable parts out of 87 total.

The hinge can hold the phone half opened at any angle between 45° and 135°. Its durability has been tested by TÜV Rheinland, which verified that it is good for 500,000 folds.

Additional info about the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 reveals that the phone will have a 8.02” internal display and a 6.5” cover display (FHD+), both with 120Hz refresh rate. Those are basically the same dimensions as on the 2022 model.

There’s more – the Fold 3 will have a dual telephoto camera setup with one 5x periscope (115mm) and one 3.2x tele camera. These two plus the main module will have Optical Image Stabilization too, plus Leica Vario-Summicron lenses.
