AMD announced its new Ryzen PRO 7000 series chips based on its Zen4 architecture and built on the 4nm manufacturing node. The Ryzen PRO 7000 series come less than a year after the Ryzen PRO 5000 and are based on the future-proof AM5 platform and require DDR5 memory. In addition, the new 7000 series now supports PCIe Gen5.
The PRO 7000 series are aimed at business desktops with the Ryzen 9 PRO 7945, 12C/124T clocked at up to 5.4 GHz, the Ryzen 7 PRO 7745 8C/16T, running at up to 5.3 GHz and the Ryzen 5 PRO 7645, 6C/12T that can go up to 5.1 GHz. All chips are clocked at 65W.
In addition to the desktop chips, the company introduced the Ryzen PRO 7040 series designed for ultra-thin business laptops. The PRO 7040 family consists of three "HS" and three "U" CPUs - the former are rated at 35-54W while the latter are rated at 15-28W.
The Ryzen 9 Pro 7940HS is the flagship chip with 8C/16T and up to 5.2 GHz clock speeds while the low-powered U series has the same 8C/16T configuration but boosting up to 5.1 GHz and featuring significantly lower base clock speeds of 3.3 GHz.
While the desktop chips employ RDNA 2 integrated graphics, the mobile series get the RDNA 3 GPU.
Since the while PRO 7000 lineup is all about business, it offers a slew of security and privacy features including AMD's Shadow Stack, Microsoft Pluton, AMD Memory Guard and Secure Processor.
