Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 renders show a familiar design, but dimensions suggest changes
Yesterday, the first speculative renders of the Galaxy Z Fold6 hit the web, now it’s time for the Galaxy Z Flip6 design to be revealed. And if you thought that the Fold looked too similar to its predecessor, wait until you see the Flip.
Last year brought major changes to Samsung’s clamshell foldable with a much larger cover display and a much improved hinge. It seems that the year since then has been spent on refining the design rather than more major changes.
The Z Flip6 reportedly measures 165.0 x 71.7 x 7.4mm when unfolded. Compare that to Z Flip5’s dimensions of 165.1 x 71.9 x 6.9mm. Since Samsung has already achieved a tightly-closing design, we can only assume that the extra thickness comes from a bigger battery – some reports put it at 4,000mAh (+300mAh over last year’s model).

The extra thickness could also help reduce the crease as it will leave more room for the flex hinge, thus reducing the strain on the display when folded. This or additional improvements may be marketed under the Ironflex name.
Speaking of the inner display, it seems that it will be the same size as before at a 6.7” diagonal. The cover display is also staying put at 3.4” with a dual camera setup encroaching on its territory (there were some suggestions that the cover display will grow to 3.9”, but that’s not happening with this design and these dimensions).
The main camera is expected to feature a 50MP sensor, an upgrade over the 12MP sensor of previous Flips that has been a long time coming. There’s no word on changes to the ultra wide module and there’s no telephoto yet (at least now the main camera has some in-sensor zoom).
Finally, let’s briefly mention the colors. The video shows off the Z Flip6 in Lavender, while the static renders show the Mint color. Both are similar but not quite the same as the equivalent hues on the Z Flip5.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 and Z Fold6 will likely be announced in August as usual. This year we may see two models in each family instead of one – a more premium Z6 Fold Ultra and a cheaper Z Flip6 FE.
