Qualcomm makes the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 official
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC just leaked earlier this morning, and now Qualcomm has made it official. This 4nm chip should slot right underneath the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 in Qualcomm"s portfolio (and the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is the highest-specced of the family, for what it"s worth).
Qualcomm promises that the new chip will deliver "remarkable AI experiences to more affordable smartphones", and it"s already lined up orders for it from Samsung, Realme, and Sharp. These brands will announce the first devices powered by it "in the coming months". They will all be one-upped by Xiaomi, however, which will be the first to use the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, in a handset that is going to be unveiled in September.
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 delivers 20% better CPU performance, a 40% faster GPU, 30% better AI performance, and 12% overall power savings compared to the 7s Gen 2. The power savings on the CPU side only are 45%. The Kryo CPU has one Prime core clocked at up to 2.5 GHz, 3 Performance cores clocked at up to 2.4 GHz, and 4 Efficiency cores clocked at up to 1.8 GHz. Up to 16GB of RAM is supported, and UFS 3.1 storage.
The chip has on-device generative AI capabilities thanks to the AI Engine dedicated NPU. It also supports AI-based noise cancelation and noise reduction, as well as 200 MP photo and 4K HDR video capture. The Spectra Triple ISP enables concurrent photo and video capture, with ultra-fast parallel processing and smooth zooming.
Displays up to FHD+ and 144 Hz are supported, while for games you get Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0, Variable Rate Shading (which dynamically renders objects in a scene), Adreno HDR Fast Blend (for dynamic, complex scenes), and support for the Vulkan 1.3 API.
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 supports 5G mmWave and Sub-6, SA and NSA, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS, Glonass, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, and NavIC.
