Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear (a) are the earbuds launching on April 18
Nothing has recently revealed that it"s announcing something on April 18, and today the company has let us know exactly what to expect: the Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear (a).
Those are not typos, we"re not talking about the Nothing Ear (3). Ahead of this launch, the company has decided to reset its naming scheme and strip back the numbers it has so far been using to underscore each generation of each product. By giving up on the numbers, Nothing says it can "center the focus around the product and the unique experience it delivers for each user".
We started Nothing with audio in 2021 and since our very first product, we’ve relentlessly refined our design and engineering with every new addition to our audio product suite.

2024 is the year we’re unveiling the ultimate iteration of Nothing Audio with two new products that… pic.twitter.com/bRrFzk9wUl
That may well turn into a confusing mess in a few years when, if we"re reading this correctly, we could have several generations of earbuds all called Nothing Ear. Perhaps we"ll have to use the launch year to make sense of them, as has sometimes been the case with Apple products.
Either way, the Nothing Ear (3) isn"t the Nothing Ear (3) anymore, it"s just the new Nothing Ear. And joining that pair of high-end earbuds will be the Nothing Ear (a), to possibly complement the Nothing Phone (2a) in the company"s portfolio as a more affordable option.
Nothing promises to deliver "premium for everyone that isn"t about market price, but user preference". We"re looking forward to seeing what the Ear and Ear (a) will bring to the table in a couple of weeks" time. Stay tuned for our reviews of both.
