Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro receive their first update

2025-03-11

Nothing fully unveiled the new Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro last week at MWC in Barcelona, and now they are both receiving their first ever software update. This will presumably be waiting for their buyers once they take them out of the box.

The update brings a lot with it. The Essential Key interaction is now updated so a quick press will save what"s on your screen and allow you to add notes, while long pressing will record a voice note alongside the screenshot.

There are also Essential Space widgets now for the home screen and lock screen, a revamped Essential Space home page, an Upcoming section to manage all your tasks in one place, and Smart Insight now displays in the system language.

Moving on, Camera Presets give you quick access to "optimal settings for different scenes". These presets can be shared and imported. You can also import cube files to use custom filters. Moreover, camera performance has been enhanced, as has clarity in macro mode. Portrait mode is now more refined with "more accurate background blur".

AI-powered face and scene classification is live in the Nothing Gallery app, which also gets "fine-tuned interaction and user experience". There"s a power-off password verification feature too, and of course bugs have been squashed as well.
