WhatsApp is adding support for events in one-on-one chats
WhatsApp is trying to compete with Google Calendar and the likes, by working on supporting events in one-on-one chats. This is now live for some beta testers using the latest WhatsApp beta version from the Google Play Store.
When this launches for everyone, it will let you schedule and manage events directly within your one-on-one chats. This has previously only been available in group chats and in communities, but is now headed to private messages as well.
So, it allows you to plan meetings, set reminders for events, and coordinate personal commitments without the need for another calendar app (take that, Google Calendar!). Say you have a common deadline with a colleague - you can set the event in WhatsApp and you'll both be reminded about it at the same time. You can also link an event to a video or voice call. When you invite someone to an event, they obviously get the option to accept or decline.
As always with WhatsApp beta features, it may take many weeks, if not months, until this gets out of beta and rolls out to everyone, but it is now clearly on the way.
