Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 to be substantially lighter and thinner than its predecessor
Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold6 will weigh 239g, well under the Fold5's 253g and only 2g more than the Honor Magic V2's heavier version (8g more than its lighter one). This also means the Fold6 will weigh as much as the lighter iteration of the OnePlus Open, and it's 6g lighter than the Open's heavier option.
But wait, there's more! According to the same source, which is the usually reliable Ice Universe, the Fold6 will be 5.6mm thick when open, and 12.1mm thick when closed. For comparison's sake, note that the Fold5's thickness measurements are 6.1mm and 13.4mm, the Honor Magic V2's are 4.7/4.8mm and 9.9/10.1mm, while the OnePlus Open comes in at 5.8mm and 11.7mm, respectively.
So sure, the Fold6 will still be the thickest of this bunch, but Samsung is finally actually competing on thickness and weight with its larger foldable, and it's definitely been a long time coming. That is, of course, if this rumor pans out, for right now it's nothing but a rumor, do keep that in mind.
Anyway, Ice Universe goes on to say that the Fold6 will keep the 7.6" diagonal for the inner screen, while the cover screen is getting even less tall - whereas the Fold5's had 23.1:9 aspect ratio, this one will take that to 22:9, making it wider and shorter when closed. The screen diagonal also increases to 6.3" from 6.2".
Now, while Ice Universe says these measurements apply to the 'vanilla' Fold6, another well known leakster, @OnLeaks, claims they are actually more likely of the rumored Fold6 Ultra, since his CAD files show that the non-Ultra model's thickness when unfolded is 6.1mm. The plot, as they say, thickens - while the Fold6 gets thinner (or does it?).
