Samsung Galaxy S25 phones are the first to support some new Qi charging features

The new Samsung Galaxy S25 family doesn"t impress with many meaningful upgrades, but even the little ones are welcome, such as the Qi 2.1 wireless charging support.

Samsung Galaxy S25 phones are the first to support the newest Qi wireless charging standard

As the version number implies, the changes are incremental. There"s also no boost in wireless charging speed—the S25 Ultra goes up to 25W, while the other two are capped at 15W. It"s the same as before.

The most meaningful change is the support for magnetic wireless charging accessories. Another neat new feature is the added Automatic Alignment Profile (AAP) Power Transmitters. This feature is mainly car-centric, as vehicles with Qi 2.1 support can move the charging coils and secure the connection. Qi 2.1 also solves the mechanical interference caused by camera bumps on some smartphones.

Keep in mind, though, that cars with Qi 2.1 are yet to become available. Perhaps the first ones will hit the market sometime this year.
