Realme GT5 Pro teaser video shows off new design, display specs officially detailed

2023-11-30

The Realme GT5 was unveiled in August and has been on sale for a few of months. A week from now it will be joined by the Pro model of generation and Realme is leaning into teasers to drum up hype for the new flagship.

First, let’s look at the teaser video for the Realme GT5 Pro. There isn’t much family resemblance – the wide, rectangular camera island of the GT5 is gone, replaced by a circular camera bump that holds a trio of cameras. This includes a 50MP periscope equipped with a Sony IMX890 sensor with 3x optical and 6x lossless zoom (the regular GT5 has no tele camera), based on an official teaser.

The circular camera island is built out of durable stainless steel, apparently, and is set in a field of vegan leather. But let’s leave the back and focus on the front as Realme posted a detailed description of the GT5 Pro.

The display is an 8T LTPO panel with 144Hz refresh rate and “1.5K” resolution (likely the same 1,240 x 2,772px as the GT5). It has a peak local brightness of 4,500 nits and a peak global brightness of 1,600 nits. For dialing that down, there are both DC dimming and 2,160Hz high frequency PWM dimming, which can create 20,000 brightness levels. The display also has a touch sampling frequency of 2,160Hz.

From a previous reveal, the display will be curved, but it’s such a gentle curve that it’s barely noticeable when you look at the phone head on. According to TENAA data, the display will be about the same size as on the GT5 at 6.78” (vs. 6.74”) and the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (vs. Gen 2).

One last thing – a screw up at a Chinese retailer revealed that the Realme GT5 Pro base model will cost CNY 3,500. That converts to $500/€450/₹42,000. Of course, that is without accounting for local taxes and such. For comparison, the regular GT5 was CNY 3,000 for the base 12/256GB model. And that will be the base configuration of the GT5 Pro as well, CMO of Realme China Xu Qi Chase confirmed as much.
