Realme 14 Pro and 14 Pro+ launch in Europe, DSLR-like concept phone unveiled

Realme has an ambitious goal – it wants to double its global user base over the next three years. And it starts today with the launch of the Realme 14 Pro series in Europe. That’s not all, this is Realme’s first MWC and it is making it special with a prototype smartphone with removable DSLR-like lenses.
First unveiled in China, the Realme 14 Pro and Pro+ went to India and have now arrived in Europe. The two models will be available starting today (March 3).
Realme 14 Pro+ • Realme 14 Pro
The Realme 14 Pro+ starts at €530, while its sibling, the vanilla Pro starts at €430. The Pro+ flaunts premium features like a quad-curved display, a 50MP 73mm periscope (3x) and fast 80W charging for its 6,000mAh Si/C battery. It is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 and features Gorilla Glass 7i protection on the front and back. Check out our review for more details (also available in video form).
The Realme 14 Pro runs on a Dimensity 7300 Energy chipset instead. Its battery has the same 6,000mAh capacity but only supports 45W charging. Its display is flat and has a lower pixel density, but it is still a 10-bit 120Hz OLED panel. Both models are rated IP69 (including IPX6 and IPX8) and are MIL-STD-810H compliant. The vanilla model lacks the GG 7i glass, though. And while it is cheaper, you are losing not only the periscope cam, but also the 8MP ultra-wide and the higher resolution selfie camera (16MP FF vs. 32MP AF).

Part of Realme’s plans to double its user base is a focus on AI – it wants to ship 100 million AI smartphones globally in the next three years. The company previewed two cool features at the MWC.
One is the AI Voice Retoucher – with this you can just tell the phone what to do, e.g. “change the sky to sunset”, instead of using on-screen menus. The other is AI Video Eraser, which removes objects from video.
The company will also join forces with popular brands to raise its profile. For this year, it has two partnerships lined up: one with a leading entertainment IP and one with a leading luxury brand.
Realme is pushing the boundaries of smartphone cameras by installing a periscope in its 14 Pro+ mid-ranger. But it’s also exploring other possibilities with this prototype device.

It features a customized 1” sensor from Sony and a proprietary lens mount system. It also showed off two lenses that go with it: a 73mm portrait lens and a 234mm telephoto lens. Both go over the 1” sensor and can achieve image quality that is out of reach for current smartphones, even the cutting edge ones.
Of course, this is just a prototype intended to wow MWC attendees. And it did. But don’t expect to see this in stores anytime soon – the Interchangeable Lens Concept is unlikely to go into mass production.
