Oppo Find X8 series is getting a Capture Button too, just like the iPhone 16 family
The iPhone 16 family isn't even out yet (or officially unveiled), and yet Oppo has been hard at work copying what will be one of its most distinctive features - this is what a lot of people will definitely say, and it's also what we would have said if Sony smartphones didn't exist. But they do, and if anyone copied anyone else, then Apple copied Sony, and Oppo copied Sony - you get the idea.
Controversy out of the way, it looks like Oppo's flagship Find X8 series will also have a Capture Button a la the iPhone 16 models and Sony devices. Apparently Oppo will call this the Quick Button, but look at its position - its purpose is clear, it's there primarily to make camera use easier.
That said, according to a machine translation of a leaked slide describing the button's functions, it will also be used in games. And when you're using the camera, you'll be able to slide your finger across the button to zoom - this basically confirms it won't be a 'real' button, but a capacitive one instead, tied to a vibration motor (perhaps the phone's default one, or a separate one just for this).
The sliding gesture will also work in gallery apps where you can zoom in and out of the photo you're looking at. Presumably you can also press a little bit to lock focus when you want to shoot pictures, and then press more forcibly to take the snap. By default it looks like you'll be able to press to take a photo and long-press to record a video, but hopefully there will be more options.
