OnePlus Watch teased with a circular dial, won't run Google's Wear OS

OnePlus introduced its first wearable dubbed OnePlus Band in January, and it will unveil its first smartwatch on March 23 alongside the OnePlus 9 series. The company CEO Mr. Pete Lau confirmed the watch is called OnePlus Watch, and it will provide "seamless connectivity" between OnePlus devices, including smartphones, audio peripherals, smartwear, and smart TVs.

Mr. Lau also said that the OnePlus Watch will have a "stunning and burdenless design", and while the smartwatch hasn't been revealed in its entirety yet, a tweet by OnePlus' official account confirmed the OnePlus Watch will have a circular dial, which yesterday's leak claimed will be 46mm in size.

OnePlus CEO further said the OnePlus Watch will deliver "a best-in-class experience at an affordable price point", although its price remains unknown. Mr. Lau also shared a two-second video clip on Twitter, which could be a reference to the rumored IP68 water resistance or just something random.

Additionally, Mr. Lau revealed that the OnePlus Watch won't run Google's Wear OS and come with an RTOS-based operating system instead. Here's what he said:

When developing the OnePlus Watch, we tried to understand the pain points for a smart watch wearer. We chose to go with a smart wear operating system developed based on RTOS because we believe it provides you a smooth and reliable experience while offering a great battery life, covering some of the biggest concerns we've been hearing from people looking to buy a smartwatch.

OnePlus hasn't detailed the OnePlus Watch's specs yet, but it did confirm the smartwatch will feature a step counter and a heart rate monitor.

Rumors have it that the OnePlus Watch will be available in Black and Silver colors and come with an SpO2 sensor, workout detection, sleep tracking, and 4GB of internal storage.

The smartwatch is said to come in standard and LTE variants and double up as a remote control for OnePlus TVs. It will also feature Warp Charge technology, which will provide a week's power in 20 minutes.
