Meizu 21x rumored to have a mid-range Snapdragon AI chip, 5,500mAh battery

For a company that gave up on smartphones, Meizu sure is working on a lot of new smartphones. February brought the Meizu 21 Pro, now rumors of a new model have surfaced, a phone tentatively named the Meizu 21x.

There is certainly a grain of truth to this – 3C just certified a battery for a Meizu phone, one with 5,400 rated capacity (that should be 5,500mAh typical capacity). This is bigger than any recent Meizu phone, including the Pro (whose battery is 450mAh smaller).

The model number of the device, BA468, is mentioned by reliable leakster Digital Chat Station, who claims that the phone will use an UP2033 charger that delivers up to 66W.

Additionally, this model will have a flat display (like other recent Meizus) and will be powered by a mid-range “Snapdragon AI” chipset. We’ve been hearing rumors of a Snapdragon 8s Gen 2, which should slot under the regular 8 Gen 2, but that’s hardly mid-range. There is, of course, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 and 7 Gen 3, the latter of which claims 60% better AI performance per watt than the SD 7 Gen 1. And there is a Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 on the way too.

Meizu phones will have deep integration with the Flyme Auto software that the company is building for Geely’s electric cars (Geely being Meizu’s parent company). A few months ago the company posted a teaser for a Meizu DreamCar MX, which is set to be unveiled in Q1 2024 (and there’s only March left), so it’s possible that the Meizu 21x and DreamCar MX launch side by side.
