Oppo and OnePlus rumored to replace alert slider with new button

The alert slider has been a staple on OnePlus phones since the OnePlus 2 debuted in 2015. Oppo has also used the slider on its flagships since 2023. It seems both brands are looking to add more functionality to their upcoming flagships by making it a multi-purpose button similar to the Action button on the last two generations of iPhones.

According to tipster Digital Chat Station, Oppo and OnePlus will call its take on the Action button - the Rubik’s Cube key.

It will retain the one-click mute functionality from the alert slider, but users will also be able to add additional shortcuts like toggling the flash, camera, and translator. The new rumor also suggests the button will support app quick-launching. The new button is expected to debut on Oppo Find X8 Ultra and will likely make its way to the OnePlus 14 later on.
