Latest OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro update comes to fix Widevine issues, improve the power usage

OxygenOS 11.0.2.1 is rolling out to OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro owners. One of the most important issues on the changelog is a fix for the DRM bug that dropped both phones to Widevine L3, limiting them to streaming SD video.

Some users report that their phones went up to Widevine L1 (allowing them to stream high definition video) immediately after the update. Others were not so lucky and their devices were still showing L3.

Widevine L1 after a successful update

Several users have reported that they successfully resolved the issue by clearing the cache for the Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and other streaming apps that they use. You can try the DRM Info app to check the Widevine level on your phone. Note that some users also report having to switch the screen color calibration to “Natural” and toggling Dark mode too (some say on, others say off). There is no official guide what to do if L1 isn't restored after the update.

This update also reduces power consumption and should improve the thermal control of the phone. It also fixes a bug in the camera and the file manager, the full changelog is below. The security patch has also been updated, though only to June 2021.
