It is official: the XPERIA X10 family Android 2.1 update finally rolls out
While Android 2.3 Gingerbread is just around the corner, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA family is finally getting to taste the Eclair (a.k.a. Android 2.1). The highly anticipated software update will start rolling this Sunday for the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro.
However, as the company points out, the Eclair update will roll out in stages in the different countries around the globe so don't panic if your XPERIA continues saying it's up to date even after this upcoming Sunday.
As you already know, there are plenty of improvements the Android 2.1 update is bringing along. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 is finally getting to taste the Eclair and some more goodies including:
- 720p HD video recording with continuous autofocus
- New back up and restore application, with extended content back up
- 5 homescreens for apps, widgets, shortcuts and folders
- Social phonebook, which automatically syncs contact pictures from Facebook and shows when your friends are online
The tiny Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 mini and its QWERTY-fied sibling, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 mini pro will not only get an upgrade to the Android 2.1 but also:
- Improved Bluetooth functionality with support for sending and receiving pictures, contacts and more
- New back up and restore application, with extended content back up
- Automatic synchronization of your contact pictures between Facebook and your phone book
- Improved ways of handling pictures, audio, text and numbers in your messages
As for the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8, there is no official info about its upgrade path, so we'll just have to wait to see about that.
