Gurman: iPhone 17 Air, new baseline iPads and iPad Airs coming this year
Apple is planning several high-profile launches in 2025, and Mark Gurmanâs latest Power On newsletter gives us a rundown of whatâs to come in the coming months. Apple is expected to kick things off with new 13â and 15â MacBook Air models (J713 and J715). Both are reportedly in production and will feature the Apple M4 chip.
The iPhone SE is next up, with a rumored launch in Spring 2025 and a starting price of $429. This will be the most affordable iPhone to run Apple Intelligence with a body similar to the iPhone 14, the Apple A18 chipset, and Appleâs in-house modem chips.
Gurman also believes Apple will launch two new entry-level iPads (J481 and J482) armed with the Apple A17 Pro chip and 8GB RAM just like the latest iPad mini. These boosted specs will allow the upcoming device to run Apple Intelligence.
Those will be joined by new iPad Air models (J607, J608, J637 and J638) speculated to feature the latest Apple M4 chip and the same basic design as the 11â and 13â iPad Airs that launched last year.
Moving on, the new report also shares a few details on Appleâs upcoming smart home hub device. It will feature a 7-inch touchscreen that will help users âmanage household tasksâ, run apps and make video calls. The device could be used on its own in countertop mode or attached to a wall. Apple is reportedly aiming to launch its smart home hub in March but it may take a while before it goes on open sale.
Fall will bring the new iPhone 17 series, including the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Air. The Air was most recently rumored to measure 5.5mm at its thinnest point â over 2mm thinner than the current iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. It will feature a âbase-level A19 chipâ and single camera on the back.
