Dimensity 9000 tops AI Benchmark, leaves Google Tensor and Snapdragon 888 in the dust
The MediaTek Dimensity 9000 is one of the most hotly anticipated chipsets for 2022 flagships. Built on a 4nm node by TSMC and with ARMv9 hardware to match the flagship chips from Qualcomm and Samsung, it will be a close fight. One battle may have already been won.
Results have been uploaded to the AI Benchmark database, which shows the Dimensity 9000 scoring 692.5, leaving the competition in the dust. Below is a summarized table, visit the benchmarkâs official site for a breakdown of the scores. Spoilers: the MediaTek chip won in all but three categories.
Processor | CPU Cores | AI Accelerator | Year | AI Score, K |
MediaTek Dimensity 9000 | 1x3.05 GHz X2 & 3x2.85 GHz A710 & 4x A510 | APU 5.0 | 2021 | 692.5 |
Google Tensor | 2x2.8 GHz X1 & 2x2.25 GHz A76 & 4x1.8 GHz A55 | Google Tensor TPU | 2021 | 256.9 |
Exynos 2100 | 1x2.9 GHz X1 & 3x2.80 GHz A78 & 4x2.2 GHz A55 | GPU (Mali-G78 MP14) | 2021 | 183.5 |
HiSilicon Kirin 9000 | 1x3.13GHz + 3x2.54GHz A77 & 4x2.04GHz A55 | GPU (Mali-G78 MP24) | 2020 | 174.1 |
Google Tensor | 2x2.8 GHz X1 & 2x2.25 GHz A76 & 4x1.8 GHz A55 | GPU (Mali-G78 MP20) | 2021 | 172.5 |
Snapdragon 888 | 1x2.84 GHz & 3x2.42 GHz & 4x1.80 GHz Kryo 680 | GPU (Adreno 660) | 2020 | 164.8 |
Of course, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 are yet to be tested. Qualcomm is promising 4x improvement over the 888, but that wonât be enough to dethrone the Dimensity. According to Digital Chat Station, the new Snapdragon will score around 560.
DCS had more to share about the Dimensity 9000 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (which is fabbed in Samsungâs 4 nm foundries). Allegedly, the Dimensity chip uses slightly less power, but the difference isnât much. The leakster adds that the SM8475, presumably the 8 Gen 1 chips that will be made by TSMC, are running cooler than the SM8450 (8 Gen 1 chips made by Samsung), but it sounds like the improvement isnât as big as expected.
The Dimensity 9000 is expected to be a pricey chip, allegedly costing twice as much as a Dimensity 1200. So, only premium devices will use it â the first should arrive in February, it might be the Redmi M50 Gaming.
