Apple iPhone 13 to be mass produced in India starting Feb 2022, trial production begins

Apple's been manufacturing iPhones locally in India for a few years now, and it will begin the mass production of the iPhone 13 in the Asian country starting February 2022, reports The Economic Times.

The publication claims that Apple has secured the supply of semiconductor chips required for the mass production and has already begun the iPhone 13's trial production in Foxconn's plant near Chennai, where the tech giant also manufactures the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12.

In addition to the Foxconn plant in Chennai, Apple produces the iPhone SE in the Wistron facility in Bengaluru, and as per estimates, the company manufactures about 70% of the iPhones it sells in India locally.

Apple iPhone 13 is the largest selling model in India in the lineup

Producing the iPhone 13 in India should not only help Apple bring down the price of its latest iPhone in the domestic market but also help boost the supply overseas since 20-30% of the iPhones manufactured in India are usually exported to the global markets.

While Apple's slated to begin the commercial production of the iPhone 13 in India starting next February, the source says that the tech giant has no plans to manufacture the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max in the world's second-largest smartphone market.
