Apple Intelligence will be available for more languages than expected starting next year
Apple Intelligence is coming next month to supported devices in supported regions. At first, it will only work in US English. More languages will be added to the list over time and that list will get longer than initially expected.
During its âglowtimeâ presentation, Apple said that localized English support will be added for Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom in December. Then in 2025, Intelligence will gain support for Chinese, French, Japanese and Spanish.
This list has been extended. First, there are two new English variants coming next year, for India and Singapore. Second, German, Italian, Portuguese, Vietnamese âand othersâ will gain support over the course of 2025 (in addition to the previously announced languages).
As we have noted before, Apple Intelligence will not be available on iPhones and iPads in the EU and China. Whatâs interesting is that Intelligence is available on the macOS Sequoia 15.1 developer beta in the EU. Maybe this is because macOS hasnât been designated as a âgatekeeperâ in the Digital Markets Act terms, but iOS and iPadOS have been. China has its own regulations about AI, so thatâs another hurdle. Apple is in talks with regulators from both regions to try and figure out the best way to implement the new features.
