Canalys: Global smartphone shipments up 10% in Q1, Samsung regains top spot
The latest report from Canalys estimates that a total of 296.2 million smartphones shipped globally in Q1, 2024. The figure represents a 10% year-on-year growth and the first double-digit growth in ten quarters.
Samsung regained the top sport with a 20% market share and 60 million shipments. The positive results were driven by the refreshed Galaxy A series and robust demand for the flagship S24 series. The earlier launch date for the S24 series also helped Samsung as it managed to ship 13.5 million units in the same period with 35% growth compared to last year.

Apple slipped to second place with a 16% market share and 48.7 million shipments. Cupertino saw a 16% decline in shipments across its core markets. Xiaomi rounded out the top three with 40.7 million shipments and a 14% market share.
Transsion Holdings came in fourth place thanks to 28.6 million shipments and 10% of the global market share. The owner of the Tecno, Infinix, and itel brands saw 86% YoY growth fueled by robust demand in emerging markets including the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. Oppo was fifth with 25 million shipments and an 8% market share.
