Xiaomi unveils RedmiBook 15 Pro and e-Learning Edition for India with 11th gen Intel CPUs
Xiaomi unveiled a pair of Intel-powered laptops for the Indian market. The RedmiBook 15 Pro is the higher end model with an 11th generation Intel H-series processor, the other model is made especially for students, the RedmiBook e-Learning Edition. Note that the Pro is different form the one we saw in China earlier this year.
RedmiBook 15 Pro
This is a 15.6” laptop with a 1080p display and a polycarbonate body that has a brushed metallic finish. This allows it to be fairly thin and light, 19.9 mm and 1.8 kg (3.97 lbs). With its 46 WHr battery, this laptop can go 10 hours on a single charge and it comes with a 65W adapter.
It is powered by the Intel i5-11300H, 10 nm SuperFin chip with a TDP of up to 35W. It has 4 cores (8 threads) and a base frequency of 3.1 GHz, plus a max turbo frequency of 4.4 GHz. It has an Intel Xe graphics with 80 execution units, giving it a performance of slightly above an Nvidia MX330, according to Xiaomi’s numbers.
The i5 is paired with 8 GB of DDR4 RAM (3,200 MHz) and a 512 GB NVMe SSD. The SSD is fast enough to do a full boot in under 12 seconds, wake-up time is under 2 seconds.
The laptop has a decent set of ports. On one side you have 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, a full size HDMI port and a gigabit Ethernet port. On the other side there is one USB-A 2.0, an SD card reader and a 3.5 mm combo jack. There is no USB-C port on board.
For wireless connectivity, the laptop is equipped with Wi-Fi 5 (2x2) and Bluetooth 5.0. The Mi SmartShare app is pre-installed, allowing you to easily send files to and from your smartphone.
The laptop comes with Windows 10 Home pre-installed along with MS Office Home and Student edition. It is compatible with Windows 11, so that will be a free upgrade once the new OS is ready.
The QWERTY keyboard is based on a scissor mechanism with 1.5 mm travel for the keys. There’s also a 100 cm² trackpad with Windows Precision Drivers, which enable multi-touch gestures.
For the video calls necessary when working and studying from home, there’s a 720p webcam on top with stereo microphones. For a bit of entertainment, there are 2W stereo speakers with DTS audio processing (and a DTS app to tune it).
The RedmiBook 15 Pro will be available in India from August 6 for INR 50,000
The RedmiBook 15 Pro will be available from August 6 (Friday) at a price of INR 50,000 ($675). You will find it on mi.com, Flipkart and Mi Home stores. Note that if you buy the laptop with a HDFC card (credit or debit), you will get a INR 3,500 discount.
RedmiBook e-Learning Edition
This is also a 15.6” laptop with a 1080p display, however, it is aimed at students, so it is cheaper – INR 42,000 ($565) with a INR 2,500 discount available if you buy it with an HDFC card. It is mostly the same as the Pro, save for the CPU which is where the price savings come from)
The e-Learning Edition laptop is also powered by an 11th generation Intel processor, an i3-1115G4. It’s still a 10 nm SuperFin part, though with only 2 cores (4 threads). Its TDP can ramp up to 28W and its max turbo frequency is 4.1 GHz.
There are two versions of the e-Learning Edition laptop. While both have 8 GB of DDR4 RAM, the base model has a 256 GB SATA SSD. For INR 45,000, you can have a laptop with a faster 512 GB NVMe SSD.
Other than this, the laptop is the same as the Pro. It has a polycarbonate shell that weighs 1.8 kg and measures 19.9 mm thick (and has a brushed metallic finish). It has a 46 WHr battery that lasts 10 hours of use and charges to 50% in 33 minutes using the 65W adapter (and to 80% in 53 minutes).
It has the same scissor keyboard (1.5 mm travel) with a large multi-touch trackpad, same selection of ports too (2x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, 1x USB-A 2.0, HDMI 1.4, 3.5 mm combo port and Ethernet port). Even the 2x stereo speakers with DTS audio are on board. Wi-Fi 5 (2x2) and Bluetooth 5.0 are on board as is the Mi SmartShare app.
The RedmiBook e-Learning Edition will also launch on August 6 on mi.com, Flipkart and Mi Home stores. You won’t have to worry about software as you get Windows 10 Home out of the box (updateable to Windows 11 when it arrives) and MS Office Home and Student Edition.
