Tecno unveils Phantom Ultimate 2 tri-fold concept
Tecno is no stranger to the world of foldable smartphones and the brand is not afraid to show off its R&D experiments every once in a while. Following last year’s Phantom Ultimate rollable concept, Tecno is now showcasing the Phantom Ultimate 2 – a trifold concept device whose screen unfolds to 10-inches in diagonal.

Current horizontal foldables are already blurring the line between smartphones and small tablets, but the Phantom Ultimate 2 is offering an even larger screen real-estate that rivals full-sized tablets. It can expand from a 6.48-inch screen size when folded all the way up to a 10-inch LTPO OLED screen with a 1,620 x 2,880px resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio.

Tecno claims the Phantom Ultimate 2 is the first foldable with TDDI technology which places both the display driver and touch sensor on a single chip. It also supports screen hovering and is impressively thin, measuring just 11mm when folded all the way thanks to a self-developed dual hinge mechanism. Tecno tested the elaborate hinge mechanism for 300,000 folds. The brand also developed the thinnest battery cover on any smartphone, measuring just 0.25mm.

The dual hinges also help minimize the screen crease in the middle of the display. Tecno envisions several unique use cases for the Phantom Ultimate 2 including a laptop model with the bottom half folded with a keyboard for note-taking. Tent mode positions two equal parts of the display on opposite sides for seamless dual-screen face-to-face conversations with live translation.
The massive 10" screen on the Phantom Ultimate 2 also supports multi-window mode which allows you to have three or more apps running at a time for a less-cramped multitasking experience.
Tecno did not reveal exact plans for launching its first tri-fold device just yet, but it sure is an exciting first look at the future of the foldable market.
