Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 brings 15% faster CPU, 50% more powerful GPU
Qualcomm announced its latest midrange 7 series chipset for mobile devices with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. While the naming may imply this is a successor to the SD 7+ Gen 2 or SD 7s Gen 2, the new chip slots between the two aforementioned SoCs. SD 7 Gen 3 is fabbed on TSMC’s 4nm process technology and features a 1+3+4 CPU package. The Kryo CPU brings a prime core clocked at 2.63GHz, alongside 3 x performance cores @2.4 Ghz and 4 x efficiency cores @1.8GHz.
Qualcomm claims a 15% improvement in CPU performance and 50% faster Adreno GPU compared to last year’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip. The 7 Gen 3 chip is also stated to offer 20% power savings based on Qualcomm’s tests.
The Qualcomm Hexagon NPU inside the SD 7 Gen 3 should offer 60% faster AI performance per watt over SD 7 Gen 1. The Adreno GPU supports OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP and Vulkan 1.3 APIs.

The new Qualcomm chip also brings support for up to 4K resolution displays at 60Hz refresh rate or FHD+ resolution at 168Hz. It is equipped with a Qualcomm Spectra ISP which can handle up to 200MP main camera modules and record 4K HDR video at 60Hz.
SD 7 Gen 3 is paired with the Snapdragon X63 5G Modem-RF System which ensures up to 5 Gbps download speeds over mmWave and sub-6 GHz bands. The connectivity department also brings support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 standards.
The first devices with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 are expected to launch later this month with Honor and vivo listed as the key OEMs set to pioneer the new chip.
