Samsung Galaxy S25 could use MediaTek chipsets too

A pretty wild rumor out of Samsung"s home of Korea today claims the company is thinking about using MediaTek Dimensity chips for the Galaxy S25 family which is due to launch next year in January.

Not just MediaTek chips, mind, but MediaTek Dimensity chips (presumably the Dimensity 9400) alongside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Samsung"s own Exynos 2500. So if this pans out (and that"s a huge if), then the next flagship family from the Korean brand could have three different SoCs in various markets.

This, however, is far from a given, considering how even today"s rumor is only saying the company might do this, not that it has already decided. The reasoning behind such a move has to do with Qualcomm"s oft-rumored price hike for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 coupled with the not-so-great yields on the Exynos 2500.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is rumored to cost around $190-200, while the 8 Gen 4 might be as much as $260 per unit. The Exynos 2500 yield is currently at about 40%, but 60% is needed in order to start mass production. Still, Samsung plans to improve this by August.

If the Exynos yields stay low and considering how expensive Qualcomm"s next high-end chip will be, it very well may serve Samsung to add in MediaTek to the mix - or at least try to use such a threat as a negotiating tactic with Qualcomm.
