Xiaomi moves 300,000 Redmi 12 series smartphones in the first sale in India

Xiaomi held an event in New Delhi, India on August 1 for the global debut of the Redmi 12 5G, where it also announced the Redmi 12 4G for the Indian market. Both smartphones went on their first sale in India yesterday and helped the Chinese brand achieve a milestone of INR 3 billion ($36 million/€32 million) in sales.

Xiaomi also said it sold 300,000 units of the Redmi 12 series smartphones in its first sale yesterday but didn't reveal how many were 4G and 5G models. The Redmi 12 4G starts at INR9,999 ($120/€110), while the Redmi 12 5G's base model costs INR11,999 ($145/€130).

The Redmi 12 5G is India's first Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC-powered smartphone. It's built around a 6.79" FullHD+ 90Hz LCD and packs a 5,000 mAh battery with 18W charging support. The smartphone comes with three cameras for photography - 8MP selfie, 50MP primary, and 2MP depth.

The Redmi 12 4G, on the other hand, is powered by the Helio G88 chip. It shares most of the specs with its 5G counterpart, except that it sports an 8MP ultrawide camera on the rear and comes with eMMC 5.1 storage instead of UFS 2.2 like the Redmi 12 5G.
