WhatsApp beta for Android gets Status update mentions feature
WhatsApp began working on Status update mentions in March, and it should soon be rolled out to users worldwide since it's now available for beta users on Android.
The folks at WABetaInfo report that the Status update mentions feature is available for Android users on beta version 2.24.20.3 of WhatsApp. To mention a contact, click the '@' button next to the caption bar when sharing a photo or video via a Status update.
The mentioned contact will get a notification when you mention them in your Status, and they can reshare it with their audience through a reshare button, which will be displayed next to the reply box when viewing the Status they are mentioned in.
However, unlike Instagram, the identity of the original creator will remain private when the mentioned contact reshares the Status. Similarly, the mentioned contact won't be visible to your Status viewers. It will remain private, meaning the contact information won't be visible to your Status viewers.
The source says the contact mentioned in your Status will be able to see your Status even if it's excluded from viewing other Status updates through Status privacy settings.
It's unclear when WhatsApp will publicly release this feature, but those who can't wait to use it can enroll in the beta program.
