Wear OS 3 update for Skagen Falster Gen 6 begins rolling out
A new Fossil-brand smartwatch is now receiving the Wear OS 3 update. The Skagen Falster Gen 6 was announced about a year ago in early 2022 and it launched with the Snapdragon Wear 4100+ Platform. The smartwatch was promised the new update since its initial launch and despite an original timeline of H2 2022, the update arrived about a couple of weeks behind schedule.
Users in a Reddit thread posted about the ongoing update. One owner reported there were fewer Skagen watch faces and none of the Pixel Watch faces are available with the update. Apparently, there are only 8 Skagen faces. Others report some missing features here and there. Like the October update for Fossil Gen 6, Google Assistant is missing from the update. This is due to some hardware limitation of Wear OS 3 and Google Assistant. Currently, Assistant is only available on Wear OS 3 watches that are running Samsungâs wearable Exynos chipsets
A user claims that the update contains the same build number as that of the Fossil Gen 6 smartwatches, which received the same update back in October. One other userâs first impressions mention the UI feels smoother and quicker, and thereâs no noticeable difference in battery life. One other person said connectivity and app options have improved on iOS.
If you want to download the Wear OS 3 update for this smartwatch, you should know that all user data on the smartwatch will be wiped, and youâll have to set up the watch with the new Skagen companion app. As mentioned before, you will also lose access to using Google Assistant on your wrist. We hope Google work with Qualcomm and does what it needs to bring Assistant back. Alexa is otherwise available as an alternate voice assistant.
