vivo Y78 goes official: Dimensity 7020 SoC, 120Hz screen, and 50MP camera

vivo unveiled the Y78+ last month with the Snapdragon 695 SoC, and today the company followed up with the regular model, powered by the Dimensity 7020 chip.

Another notable difference between the vivo Y78 and Y78+ is that the former is built around a 6.64" FullHD+ 120Hz LCD, while the latter packs a 6.78" FullHD+ 120Hz curved AMOLED display with a fingerprint reader underneath for biometric authentication. The vanilla model features a side-mounted solution instead.

Also, while both smartphones pack 5,000 mAh batteries with 44W wired charging, the vivo Y78 is actually thicker and heavier (190g vs. 177g) than the Plus version. It's also worth mentioning that the 50MP primary camera on the Y78+ has OIS, which the Y78's 50MP unit doesn't have. Regardless, the primary camera on both smartphones is joined by 2MP depth units, with the selfie camera on the front using an 8MP sensor.

The vivo Y78, like the Y78+, runs Android 13-based OriginOS 3 out of the box. It also features a USB-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack and has Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity instead of 5.1.

The vivo Y78 is offered in three colors and three memory configurations - 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB, and 12GB/256GB priced at CNY1,399 ($200/€185/INR16,570), CNY1,699 ($245/€225/INR20,120), and CNY1,999 ($290/€265/INR23,675), respectively. It will go on sale in China starting May 13 through vivo's official Chinese website, but we are still waiting to hear about its availability in other markets.
