vivo Y78 goes global with a curved 6.78" 120Hz display and Snapdragon 695
vivo Singapore has quietly revealed the global version of the Y78 â we say âglobalâ because it differs quite a bit from the Y78 that launched in China earlier this month. This one is bigger and with a different chipset, making it more similar to the Y78+ from April, though not quite identical either.
The global vivo Y78 is equipped with a roomy 6.78â display â a 120Hz AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution (20:9) and an under display fingerprint reader. Itâs a curved display, so the phone is relatively narrow for its size, measuring 164.3 x 74.8 x 7.9mm and weighing 177g.
It has a plastic body rated at IP54, meaning it will keep most of the dust out and can withstand a splash of water.
Tucked into a punch hole is a 16MP camera (f/2.45), while the rear has a single module of interest â a 64MP sensor combined with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization. Also on the back are a 2MP macro cam and a 2MP depth sensor. Thatâs different from both the other Y78 phones, which have 8MP selfie and 50MP rear cameras.
The Y78 is powered by the Snapdragon 695. Not the fastest chipset, but it does enable 5G connectivity. vivo paired it with 8GB of RAM (plus up to 8GB more virtual RAM) and a generous 256GB storage (there is no expansion slot, however). Note that the chipset limits video recording to 1080p @ 30fps, just like it does on the Y78+. Anyway, the phone runs FuntouchOS 13/Android 13 out of the box.
The Y78 runs on a 5,000mAh battery with 44W fast charging, just like its namesakes. The phone ships with an 11V/4A charger and a USB-C cable in the box, plus (at least in Singapore) a basic case and a pre-applied screen protector.
The price of the vivo Y78 hasnât been revealed yet, but the new phone should hit store shelves soon. Itâs available in a Dreamy Gold and Flare Black, both with a gradient effectz.
