Vivo V1 ISP chip photographed next to Snapdragon 888
Vivo"s upcoming X70 line is one of the more curious upcoming releases in recent memory. We are currently expecting a trio of devices in the family - a vanilla X70, a X70 Pro and a X70 Pro+ - all of which we are already quite familiar with, thanks to an avalanche of multiple certifications, leaks, live photos and official teasers and press materials. Yet, there is still plenty of mystery to unravel, mostly related to vivo"s new in-house ISP camera chip solution - the V1 - recently announced and said to debut in the X70 line.
Today brings yet more info about the V1 chip in the form of some nifty live photos of it next to a Snapdragon 888 chipset. As a reminder, the Snapdragon 888 is a full-featured chipset, with its own ISP on-board, among many other things, which should be considered in terms of overall size comparison. Sadly, we still don"t have the full scoop on the V1 chip and what we can expect from it, nor details on its internals and manufacturing process.

Well, we do now know that it is being designed and manufactured in-house by vivo and a second generation chip could already be in development. At least that"s what Hu Baishan of vivo hinted at, explaining that the entire four-stage R&D process for the V1 started two years ago and involved more than 300 people. That includes designing the image processing algorithm, designing the chip itself, foundry flow and packaging and output.
We also now know that the V1 chip will be responsible for a lot more than just image processing, but will also enable special features related to the camera viewfinder and video capture. Though, unfortunately, still no particulars.
In other related news, we now have a GeekBench listing for the vivo X70 Pro+ to add to the long list of leaks and info. It re-affirms the flagship model is running a Snapdragon 888+, Android 12 and on this particular unit - 12GB of RAM.

Beyond this, the X70 Pro+ will have a 6.78", 3,200 x 1,440-pixel, AMOLED display, already officially confirmed to be of the Samsung E5 variety. In the camera department, we expect 50MP, 48MP, 12MP, and 8MP units on the rear. TENAA says the smartphone will come with 5x optical zoom and have 8K video recording capability. And a 32MP selfie on the front. All of this inside an 8.89mm thick, 209-gram body, along with a 4,430 mAh battery with fast charging support.
We have a bit less info on the vanilla X70 and the X70 Pro, but you can read more about them here. Some highlights include 6.56", FullHD+, AMOLED displays, a triple main camera setup, consisting of a 40MP main snapper, a 12MP ultrawide and a 12MP 2x telephoto. Also, a 32MP selfie and a 4,320 mAh battery. The X70 Pro, in particular, might be rocking a Samsung Exynos 1080 chipset.
