vivo and ZEISS partner up to jointly develop imaging tech for smartphones
vivo is set to announce the X60 series on December 29 when it was also supposed to unveil the details of its new deal with lens-maker ZEISS, but why wait â today the two companies made their collaboration official and it goes beyond a single launch.
The two will establish the vivo ZEISS Imaging Lab, a joint R&D program focused on developing innovative solutions for mobile imaging technology. The program will oversee the joint development and co-engineering of optical components for future vivo flagships.
vivo already has several imaging R&D centers around the world, which have more than 700 staff in total. But now it can tap into ZEISSâ decades of experience in developing optics and opto-electronics.
The partnership will also start the vivo ZEISS Master Photography campaign to promote newly developed imaging systems and to âinspire users to enjoy their creativity with vivoâs flagship smartphonesâ.
The first product of the vivo/ZEISS partnership will be unveiled in a couple of weeks time, the vivo X60 series with ZEISS Vario-Tessar lenses featuring the T* anti-reflective coating (leaked camera details offer a sneak peek of what to expect). The X60 will also use ZEISSâ 3D PoP algorithms for bokeh rendering. The camera technology co-developed with ZEISS will be a premium feature for future high-end vivo phones as well.
