Details surrounding the acquisition are scarce and an official statement on the matter is still missing. Should it come to pass though Tencent will finally enter the gaming smartphone segment with a hardware offer of its own.
Previously Tencent struck partnerships with various smartphone makers, including Asus for its ROG Phone and nubia for the Red Magic series. With BlackShark, the company might be able to take its business overseas as well given that Xiaomi"s division has already penetrated some big markets.
