Tecno’s upcoming flagships will excel at capturing moving objects and long-distance shots
Tecno held its Future Lens 2024 event in Chongqing, China where the brand detailed the upcoming camera features for its 2025 flagship phones. The main announcements were Tecnoâs imaging matrix (TIM) and two advanced imaging technologies - EVS Dynamic Snapshot and Tap Any Zoom Dual Prism Telephoto.
Tecno imaging matrix is the brandâs latest generation image processing tech with four stages. The hardware foundation layer has four image processing units (camera hardware, sensor, chipset and display) that feed data to the de-construction layer and its ten elemental imaging algorithms. From there, the engine re-construction layer uses an AI-driven imaging engine with a dedicated Tecno Algorithm Process Stack (TAPS) and transfers the information to the application layer with its mobile imaging application functions.
On the hardware front, Tecno premiered its EVS Dynamic Snapshot technology, which pairs an event-based vision sensor (EVS) alongside the traditional CMOS camera sensor with the goal of capturing moving objects.
Instead of collecting pixels frame-by-frame like traditional camera sensors, the EVS sensor captures motion data with a full dynamic process while the camera sensor captures still images and color information. Data from both sensors is then merged, with the end result being perfectly focused still images. This development will be useful for action shots in sports and wildlife scenarios, which have traditionally been hard for smartphone cameras.
The second major hardware announcement is Tecnoâs Tap Any Zoom Dual Prism Telephoto sensor. It employs a dual-periscope module with lens-shifting and optical image stabilization alongside a proprietary algorithm that helps users focus and capture stunning long-distance photos and videos.
Tecnoâs new periscope module allows the user to double-tap an object in the viewfinder, and the periscope lens will automatically adjust its zoom and framing to capture that object. Tecnoâs new sensor also supports image stitching with the ability to capture larger image frames than traditional telephoto lenses without distortion.
Tecno confirmed its plans to launch a premium smartphone with the newly announced camera developments in 2025.
