Tecno Phantom V Flip handled on video ahead of Friday's official unveiling

Tecno will release its second foldable on Friday through its premium Phantom brand. The first was the horizontal foldable dubbed the Phantom V Fold, this new model will be a clamshell appropriately named Phantom V Flip.

The official event will be held in Singapore, but the phone is expected in India and Nigeria, among other markets. In fact, Nigerian carrier MTN is already taking in pre-orders (well, they are more like registrations than actual orders). This deal is valid until September 27, which is presumably when open sales will start (in Nigeria at least).

The deal is you put down a NGN 100,000 deposit ($130) and you get 2 designer perfumes plus 70GB of data for free (this bonus is valued at NGN 100,000). These images offer a peek at the design, but you can also check out the leaked renders from a case maker for more angles of the phone.

And now you can see a quick hands-on video too. The most interesting aspect of the Tecno Phantom V Flip is that the company went with a circular display for the outside, which sits in the middle of the camera bump.

In the video you can see what appears to be an always on display (clock), plus an animated wallpaper and some shortcuts. We doubt that this display will be able to run Android apps like other flips can, instead it will work with widgets (you can see “Add widget” in the last slide).

This browser does not support the video element.

The video also shows something we haven’t seen before – the main display inside. Reports put it at 6.9” with FHD+ resolution, while the outer display is a smartwatch-sized 1.39”. The phone will be powered by a Dimensity 1300 (based on Google Play Console data) with 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage. The two cameras surrounding the cover display have 64MP and 13MP sensors, there is a selfie camera inside too.

Stay tuned for the official launch of the Tecno Phantom V Flip on Friday.
