Skype finally hits all Androids, requires 2.1 Eclair or higher
Yes, we all agree it was about time. It"s Skype and it"s available for Android. It can be installed on every smartphone running on Android OS v2.1 Eclair or higher. The new Android app has all the usual functionality you"d expect from the official mobile application.
With Skype for Android you can chat, manage Skype contacts, and best of all, make calls over Wi-Fi or even the 3G mobile network (that last one not available in the US). The app allows both free Skype-to-Skype calls and paid SkypeOut calls.
So far the mobile Skype app has been reserved for Verizon Android smartphones only.
You can get Skype for Android from the Android Market or from skype.com/m. Currently Skype is available in all regional Markets except in China and Japan.
Skype has tested the compatibility with all HTC and Motorola devices running on Android 2.1 or better. It should work on all the other devices matching the software requirements too.
Samsung Galaxy S users should be aware that the Skype app has some issues with the phone. Skype is working on them and hopefully will come up with a fix soon.
