Sega is acquiring Rovio Entertainment for €706 million
Sega Corporation announced its plans to acquire Rovio Entertainment Oyj â the maker of Angry Birds for â¬706 million ($775 million). The deal is expected to be completed by September 2023 and will see Sega take over Rovioâs mobile game development and use the Finnish companyâs expertise in mobile gaming to develop multi-platform titles from Segaâs IP portfolio.

The press release also mentions Segaâs plans to help expand Rovioâs platform âoutside of mobile gamingâ which could signal new Angry Birds titles for consoles, as well as new feature films and TV series. Rovioâs mobile games have been downloaded over 5 billion times and its Beacon platform for game development is another key part of the Sega acquisition.
