Samsung union workers in South Korea plan to prolong strike indefinitely until conditions are met
Thousands of Samsung workers in South Korea went on a three-day strike this Monday to press management into offering higher wages and improved working conditions. The first unionized strike in Samsungâs history is led by the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU) which represents the largest unionized group at Samsung with 30,000 registered members.
The NSEU has now declared an âindefiniteâ strike until its conditions are met and claims it has 6,540 members who have agreed to participate in the strike with workers across facility, manufacturing, and development divisions. The union also threatens to disrupt Samsungâs chip manufacturing lines.
Samsung representatives have assured that there will be no disruption to production lines and that the company âremains committed to engaging in good faith negotiations with the unionâ. This development comes as Samsung presented record Q2 profits fueled by profit from AI chip demand.
