Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab gets a 2.3.3 Gingerbread update

2021-05-04

With all the attention focused on Honeycomb and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 it’s easy to forget that Samsung has been in the tablet business for several months now. And it’s a good thing that the company hasn’t forgotten about those who purchased the P1000 Galaxy Tab and is now releasing a major update for the slate.

The update is already available, through Kies in Italy and brings the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread goodies to the 7” Galaxy Tab. Right now it seems that only the unbranded versions of the device are getting an invite to the party, but the carrier-locked ones (plus those for other regions) should hopefully follow suit in the near future.

Previous rumors suggested that the Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab might never get updated to Honeycomb, so this might be as good as it gets for it, but considering its price (under £300 in UK and $350 in the US) it’s not too bad of a deal.

Plus HTC have already confirmed that their Flyer will indeed have a taste of Honeycomb in the future so the mysterious clause in the licensing agreement that prevents tablets released with Android 2.x to join the 3.x party might turns out to be just a myth.
