Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, Fold5 score record-smashing pre-orders in Korea

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 recently and opened pre-orders for the foldables on August 1 in South Korea. The campaign is going strong at home with orders surpassing 1 million for the two devices, breaking the previous record of 970,000 for the 2022 devices.

Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy Z Flip5 proved more popular than the Fold5, accounting for about 70% of the total 1.02 million units. This is an improvement for the clamshell because last year’s Galaxy Z Flip4 accounted for approximately 60%. The Flip5 pre-orders reached 714,000, while the Fold5 scored some 306,000 units with still a few days to go before the end of the pre-order window.

Interestingly enough, consumers at home are less interested in the big foldable than its predecessor, as the Fold4 scored 388,000 pre-orders. The rather tame update combined with the solid durability of the Fold4 means few existing users were tempted to upgrade even with the strong trade-in incentives by Samsung.

We can understand why users flocked to the Galaxy Z Flip5 - it offers a bigger cover screen that's far more usable than any of its predecessors and massively improves the selfie-taking experience, as well as navigation when the device is closed.
