Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could have a massively upgraded periscope telephoto camera
200 MP periscope telephoto cameras are becoming really popular with Chinese smartphone makers, after the introduction on the vivo X100 Ultra and the subsequent use of the same module on the X200 Pro. And out of five super-flagships coming this year from China, three will employ such a camera.
The good news for Samsung fans is that the Korean company is now said to have begun the evaluation process for using a 200 MP periscope telephoto camera, with a 1/1.5-inch type sensor (ever so slightly smaller than the 1/1.4-inch type vivo uses).
If Samsung decides on using it, then it will most likely make it to the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which is going to be released next year and might be called S26 Note. That would, in theory, make Samsung's 2026 flagship smartphone on par, in this regard, with vivo's flagship for the earlier part of 2024. Still, you know how the saying goes - better late than never.
Of course there's a chance this rumor isn't accurate, and there's also a chance Samsung will eventually decide against going this route, as it's still very early days with regard to the development of the S26 Ultra. We'll keep you posted.
