It has only been several months since the Toshiba TG01 and its 1GHz Snapdragon CPU were officially unveiled and here comes something else to look forward to. The 1.3GHz Qualcomm"s QSD80650A Snapdragron CPU boasts a major 30% speed upgrade over the existing 1GHz Snapdragon chipset.

The QSD80650A Snapdragon certainly sounds like the next big thing in the portable devices industry. Sporting the same 15 x 15mm size as it predecessor it offers immense capabilities, including 2D and 3D acceleration, integrated GPS, high-def video recording and playback, Bluetooth 2.1 and WiFi. The new Snapdragon CPU supports displays of up to WXGA (1280x800 pixels) resolution and comes with multi-mode UMTS and CDMA 3G connectivity. Sounds like the core of a sweet netbook, doesn"t it?

What makes the QSD8650A even sweeter is that it will consume 30% less power than its 1GHz sibling, which should result in major increase in the battery life of the devices utilizing it. The reason for the greatly increased efficiency is that the new CPU uses a reduced 45nm manufacturing processes.

Qualcomm QSD8650A chipset is said to become available for sampling before the end of 2009, so the first devices running it should appear somewhere in 2010.
