Putting the Pie in pie chart: Android 9 now on over 10% of devices
Its been months since Google updated the Android version distribution numbers, the last one was in October. Maybe it was waiting until it had good news to share and now it does Android 9 Pie is on more than 10% of phones.
For comparison, Android Oreo was announced in August 2017 and took until July 2018 to crack 10% (actually, it was at 12.1% that month). Pie was launched in August 2018 and it crossed the 10% mark two months earlier.
Speaking of Android Oreo (8.0 and 8.1), it also grew. Its now on on over 28% of phones. Oreo and especially Pie are based on Project Treble foundations, which make it easier for makers to update their existing phones to new Android versions.

By the way, if any of these percentages seem unimpressive, keep in mind that there are 2.5 billion Android devices out there. So, each percentage point represents 25 million devices.
PS. Months ago, Gingerbread was at 0.2% and now its at 0.3%. Were starting to think that its immortal.
