Panasonic to unveil its first Android-driven smartphones
After stepping down from the international mobile phone market a few years ago, word is Panasonic is getting ready for a come back. Apparently, the Japanese company is working on its first Android-powered smartphones, which should show up across Japan in 2011 and a year later, in 2012, overseas.
Panasonic quit producing mobile handsets for the international market back in 2006 and since then its mobile phones have only been available in Japan. Now, several years later, the company is almost ready to come back to the international scene.
The details at this stage are scarce and we only know what we already shared with you in the intro. The new smartphones will be based on the Android platform and should start shipping in Japan in the coming months (some time in 2011) and a year later, in 2012, they will prep some models form for the rest of the world.
This should help the company sales grow to 15 million units sold worldwide in 2015 from the 5.4-5.5 million units that are expected to be sold in Japan by March 2011.
As for the upcoming devices" details, those are yet to be revealed but we"d love a Lumix phone, won"t you?
