Ovi Contacts makes its way to touch-enabled Nokia 5800 and N97

Ovi Contacts, Nokia's integrated IM client, is now compatible with the touch-enabled Symbian S60 5th edition devices such as Nokika 5800 XM and Nokia N97. The application is still at beta status, but can be freely downloaded off the Nokia Beta Labs website.

The Ovi Contacts application has been around for a while now, but this is its official debut on a touchscreen handset. The nice functionality it offers along with Goggle Talk support was much appreciated by our team as we tested it out in our recent Nokia N86 8MP review and Nokia 5630 XpressMusic review.

The application itself offers tight contact list integration on the phone to bring IM functionality to what is essentially a regular phonebook. You can search for people already registered with Ovi or send an invitation to anybody using Gmail since the Ovi contacts supports G-Talk, Google's own IM, as well.

Thanks to this service you will be able to chat in real time with all your Ovi/Google Talk-connected contacts, change your status messages and mood, and all that kind of social networking stuff.

In addition you can even go as far as sharing your GPS location so your friends can view immediately where you are at that particular moment using Ovi Maps. The name and the artist of the track you are currently listening to also gets shared to your contacts in real life.
