Our Huawei P50 Pro video review is up

2022-02-05

The Huawei P50 Pro is a proud and worthy addition to the long-standing P-series of devices. And as such manages to carry on the family tradition and push the envelope in mobile photography. With a new Leica camera at its disposal - a 64MP Bayer sensor with lossless 7x zoom and a 40MP monochrome snapper, the P50 Pro is one of the best cameras currently on the market with great photo and good video quality. Its selfies are stellar too.

It is no slouch in other departments either, with highlights including a stylish, slim dual-glass, IP68 body, a super stereo speaker setup and a stunning and bright OLED display, with 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support and a tiny notch.

There are a lot of reasons to potentially pick up a Huawei P50 Pro, but there are also quite a few compelling arguments not to. As expected, its Achilles heel is arguably still the lack of Google Play services. To be fair, both EIMUI 12 and the Huawei App Market have come a long way and offer a great experience, but you still have to jump through hoops to get some apps working, while others are outright unavailable. And speaking of unfortunate situations, Huawei still finds itself in there is also the fact that the Huawei P50 Pro lacks 5G support. Our global review unit came with a Snapdragon 888 4G, which, beyond lacking 5G, also tends to run a bit hot and throttle at times. Battery life is also not a major strong suit of the P50 Pro.
