OnePlus Open launch delayed due to a change in screens

2023-08-01

The first foldable from OnePlus, dubbed the OnePlus Open, was supposed to be unveiled on August 29, according to Max Jambor. However, the tipster now reports that there has been a change in plans and that the launch has been pushed back a bit.

The new date isn’t known yet, but should be revealed soon. As for the change in plans, the Open was originally slated to use BOE panels, but it seems there was an issue with that, so now OnePlus is switching over to Samsung panels.

The researchers at Omdia report that the Oppo Find N2 (which was once reported the basis for the Open) uses two Samsung Display panels – one on the front and one inside. The original Find N and the new Find N2 Flip use Samsung displays inside and BOE displays outside.

The Open probably won’t be based on the Find N2, anyway, as some reports put the cover and internal displays at 6.3” and 7.8”, respectively, compared to 5.54” and 7.1” on the N2. Also, the Open should be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip rather than the 8+ Gen 1 (at least that’s what the latest rumors claim). More details here.

After the OnePlus Open is out the door, the next major launch for the company will be the OnePlus 12 in December (for China, January for the global launch).
