Official: Xiaomi 13T and 13T Pro will get four Android updates, five years of security patches

Yesterday Xiaomi finally revealed the official announcement date for the oft-leaked 13T and 13T Pro. They will both be unveiled at a special event in Berlin, Germany on September 26.

Today, Xiaomi Communications Director Daniel Desjarlais basically started the official teaser campaign for the upcoming duo by revealing that they will both get four major Android updates as well as five years of security patches.

This software update promise for the previous generation of the company's 'flagship killer' series was three major OS updates and four years of security patches with the 12T and 12T Pro last year, so we're seeing a one-update and one-year increase this time around.

Xiaomi is also, with this move, matching Samsung, but there are rather important caveats to mention. The Korean company issues monthly security updates for all of its high-end devices, while Xiaomi sends one out every two months - and there's no reason for us to believe that will change for the 13T and 13T Pro.

Also, the first major upgrade will be Android 14, so these will only be covered until Android 17. Had they launched a few months later with Android 14 on board, and the same update promise, they would have made it to Android 18. All that said, it's great to see more Android device makers extend their software support windows, even if it is only for specific devices like in this case.
