ZTE-owned nubia has started the global rollout of its latest gaming smartphone, including North and Latin Americas as well as many EU markets and Asia Pacific countries. The nubia Red Magic 7 makes its debut with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, and up to 18GB of RAM on the top-tier model. The smartphone’s pricing starts at $629 / €629 / £529 for the 12GB + 128GB variant.

There are three versions of the phone. The highest-tier Supernova option is the only one that comes transparent (as pictured). You can see the cooling fan, adorned with RGB lights, along with some cool illustrations below the surface of the back panel.

The 6.8-inch AMOLED screen features a 165Hz refresh rate with Full HD+ resolution. There’s also 720Hz touch sampling rate with multi-finger support, all protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Over the display is an 8MP selfie camera – there’s no punch-hole or notch display here.

The phone’s design is flashy and bold, which is the norm with gamer-centric hardware. The device’s frame is made up of aviation-grade aluminum and the back cover is made of glass. The Red Magic 7 features dual triggers, which are capacitive inputs with 500Hz touch sampling rate and 8ms response time.

The Red Magic 7’s cooling system has been overhauled for this new model. There is a 35% improvement of airflow, and a new air intake duct has been added to the back cover as well. The cooling fan is capable of up to 20,000 RPM for dispersing hot air while gaming or while fast charging the dual-cell 4,500 mAh battery with the included 65W GaN charger. It"s worth noting this is the only difference with the Chinese variant, which comes with 120W charging.
